Sierra Shred FAQs
What can be shredded?
All types of office paper items, like statements, reports, spreadsheets, forms, blueprints, brochures, checks, checkbooks, envelopes, folders, small bound items, even credit cards! No x-rays or trash, please.
Do I have to remove staples, paper clips, rubber bands, envelopes, or file folders?
No need to spend your time on any of that! Our high-powered shredders take care of all those things easily! Please remove any 3-ring binders.
Does my paper have to be in boxes?
No, you can collect your paper whichever way you like. Trash bags (white or clear), plastic containers or tubs, in file cabinet drawers, even stacked on the floor is fine!
Do you shred the boxes I collect my paper in?
No, but we can recycle them for you. Just let us know, and we’ll include that in your service.
Is shredding done on-site?
Yes! Everything is shredded on-site at your location where you can watch it happen. We welcome you to step out to the curb and see our team and shredder in action. You can even view your items being shredded on the video monitor on the side of the truck.
Do you provide proof my items were shredded?
Yes! We provide a signed Certificate of Destruction along with your paid Invoice upon completion of your service.
How much does it cost?
Our services start at $45 for on-going recurring container service and $99 for a one-time purge service. We’ll be happy to provide you a free quote!
Are there any additional fees?
Nope! With our No Hidden Fee Guarantee, you will get an honest and fair price every time, with no additional, unexpected charges tacked on to your bill for service time, travel time, or fuel expenses. We want you to have a clear understanding of our services and our pricing, so you know exactly what to expect from us and how to budget for your project. Nothing hidden, no surprises!
Do I have to sign a contract to set up service?
No way, not even for on-going recurring container service! Unless you want one. Our aim is to earn your business every day, not bind you into a long-term contract. We firmly believe providing friendly, responsive, and reliable service helps build strong, long-lasting relationships with our customers. A happy customer is a loyal customer…no contract necessary!
But why should I pay for a shredding service when we already have a shredding machine in-house?
Easy: because it saves you money, it’s safer, it protects you from all kinds of potential liabilities, and it helps the environment. For details on savings, check out this cost comparison.
What happens to the shredded paper?
This is our favorite question! It gets recycled! All of it! Your shredded documents get mixed in with thousands of pounds of other shredded paper (our trucks carry over 10,000 lbs per payload!) and then all of it is delivered to our local recycling partner. Each ton of shredded and recycled paper saves 17 trees plus a whole lot more. Go green!
Do I need a one-time shredding or would I be better off with a recurring container service?
Contact us! Our professional staff is super-knowledgeable and would love to help you find the best document shredding solution for your needs. With answers to a few simple questions, we can advise you on your best course of action. As soon as you’re ready, you’ll have your shredding scheduled, completed, and off your to-do list!
Does Sierra Shred conduct background checks on its employees?
Yes! Keeping your information secure is our highest priority. For your peace of mind and ours, we only hire the best personnel and conduct rigorous 7+ year background checks and drug testing by an independent third-party vendor.
Does Sierra Shred offer free shredding?
While you may see offers elsewhere for free shredding, beware as they may come with inadequate security. At Sierra Shred, our goal is to protect your confidential information at all times. Our high-security on-site service provides you with an unbroken chain of custody since your documents are destroyed by a bonded, uniformed Service Technician while you watch. If you’re able to bring your items to us, we do offer our lowest cost option on our regularly scheduled Shredding Saturdays. For just $5 per standard size box, you can watch your items shredded on the spot. Any quantity is welcome!
Do you offer a hard drive destruction service?
Yes, we do! While it might be fun to take a hammer to your old hard drive, it will not prevent your data from being stolen. Sierra Shred offers two options for hard drive destruction, and both are highly secure and completed on-site at your location.
How can I be sure my confidential data has been completely destroyed by Sierra Shred?
Sierra Shred uses state-of-the-art mobile shredding trucks outfitted with onboard cameras for viewing. We welcome you to come out and watch the whole process! All data is destroyed in accordance with state and federal regulations regarding information destruction including HIPAA, FACTA, and GLBA. And after each shredding service, you will receive a signed Certificate of Destruction. For your peace of mind, we only hire the best personnel and conduct rigorous 7+ year background checks and drug testing by an independent third-party vendor. We also are a BBB Accredited Business and a member of the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID).
